My First Kiss and all that.....
Now that I am engaged to my Edward, it feels more sweet to remember the blossoming of our love, and yes, our first kiss.
Ours was really the love at first sight. Ed was related to one of my class-mates and she introduced us to each other when we were on a trek.In those ten days we got drawn to each other though I was a student and he had just started working as an architect's assistant in a reputed firm .His good humoured nature, love for poetry and his working for P.E.T.A. enamoured me to him.Thereafter we kept meeting each other in London yet decided to take things slow. We kind of danced around each other for awhile, unclear about signals and all that. But slowly we came to realize our mutual attraction and felt that it was much more than mere infatuation. Soon, I dropped all my reserve since I felt safe with him and even introduced him to my parents who approved him. It was all that was needed to make us bond together. We used to have great conversations about art , poetry and nature. He would involuntarily hold my hand and caress it while talking animatedly. During one such conversation I became a little bold and said, "Well, you haven't even kissed me yet." And then he looked at me and smiled. OMG, that smile! And those intense brown eyes! I don't think I've ever been affected by anybody like that before . But he said nothing more than, 'Well, come, let us take you to your home.It is already so dark and your mom will start worrying about her baby doll."
.... He walked me to my door. We were standing on the porch. The stars outside were so bright and the night was perfect as well, not too cool and not too hot. And then suddenly he leaned down . I couldn’t look away no matter how much I would. His dark gaze was loving and yet there was something more. A bright glint lightened his eyes. Was it desire? No! He was such a gentleman, he’d never acted on his feelings entirely except for the occasional brief embrace or chaste kiss on my forehead.
The tension between us dropped away until there was a comfortable moment of silence, and the exchange of looks between us heightened into something more.
My heartbeat thudded softly, and my lips parted as I looked up at him.
He touched my cheek and then jaw, caressing it gently. With a gentle grasp on my chin, he pulled me towards him by degrees. I caught my breath as I knew his intent. His lips moved onto mine and I involuntarily sighed into the kiss. He was patient, steady as he kissed me, allowing me the chance to reject him if I wished. But, I did not. How could I ? His arm encircled me, pulling me tighter against him and I rested my hands on his chest with full trust. It was really a very pleasurable moment. I murmured something incoherently and lifted my arms to loop them around his neck. I kissed him back gently, trying to keep up.
Edward then pulled back slightly, looking at me with a slight smile on his face. He caressed my cheek once more. “I didn’t want to startle you.”
“You didn’t.”
He nodded. “Good. I’ve been wanting to do that since I met you.”
“You have?”
He grinned, then sobered a little. “You’ve never been kissed like that before, have you?”
I shook my head. How could I tell him that he was only the second person after the boy who had 'kissed' me while in the Sixth grade!...
“That’s what I thought.”
I frowned. “Did I do something wrong?”
“Not at all. It was perfect.”.....
Perfect. That was the right word for what I had felt. . OMG! That was simply the best kiss ever. A sort of 'fireworks' and 'the knock-your-socks-off' kind of kiss! My mind was completely blown. I'd never had that kind of kiss. It was perfect. He took his time, and I kissed him back, of course, timidly , and, well, it was not a good kiss from my side since I was still wallowing in his kiss. We said our goodbyes and when I went inside, I probably didn't come back to myself for a full ten minutes. I was floating or the room was whirling around me.
I then said to myself," this is the man I will spend my whole life loving through ups and downs. "
Then the last two years were very bad for me because of my mother's illness and her battle against the breast cancer. I had to take a drop from my graduation and calamity loomed so large at our doorstep. It was a lot to handle, to say the least. But, through all of that, one thing stayed true- Edward's love for me and his dedication to my parents. He took great care of my mother too. This endeared him to my dad who did have some reservations about him. He even encouraged me to take up my graduation once again, persuaded me to rejoin my University of Cambridge and persue my dream. I could do so only because I was sure that Ed will look after my mom in London in my absense and now my mom treats him like her own son! Oh, God, I couldn't have asked for a better man to lean on or to love!
And now I am engaged to him! This happened on my birthday, that is, on 24th April 2014! What better birthday gift destiny could have given to me?
